Won easily; second driving. Sovereign showed the most speed, won all the way and finished with plenty in reserve and outlooked and outclassed his field. Mesmer ran like a stayer, was prominent throughout and outstayed Stroller at the end of a long stretch drive, racing much better than he had worked. Stroller moved up when straightened for home, but failed to make good and was a lucky third. Colonsay, away badly, closed a big gap and finished fast The Guardsman steadily improved his position from a poor start. First Chord went well, but favors mud. Royal Pirate, interfered with and hopelessly out of it in the first sixteenth, made up ten lengths on the leaders. Scratched— 38828 St. Daniel, 109; 38725 Scoffer, 109; 38833 Rene, 104; 38080 Bright Girl 104; 38882 Nic Longworth, 104; 38828 Castalian, 101. Tim Sullivan was lucky at the start and led unextended throughout. Bryn Mawr looks like a high-class colt. He bolted at the start and was nearly left, closed a tremendous gap and was going very fast at the finish and was probably best. Tamarix was swerving and retarded early in the race under ill timed whipping and in spite of his jockeys violent tactics was going well at the end. Hands Up was a sharp contender for second nlace at the end of the first half and was probably short. No show betting on first three. Cyprienne put up a strong bid for the lead in the first half and held on gamely m a driving finish. The Lady Rohesia was a prominent contender throughout, but tired at the end. Valour fell away m the last sixteenth and ran a bad race. Heatherdown and Gananogue were both ridden out and consequently their form is bad. Vagary is a splendid looking filly and highly tried. She raced into prominence at the middle quarter and Bullman mdU seeing she could not win eased her up. Overweights — Vagary, 4 pounds. Winner — B. c, by Order — Repentant trained by H. M. Mason. Went to post at 4:25. At post 4 minutes. Start straggling. Won handily; second easily. Remorse was lucky at the start, followed the pacemaker closely and appeared to be always under pressure to hold his position, but after a long and persevering ride wore him down at the end, running a remarkably fast and game race. Young Henry made the running under restraint for the first six furlongs and then unexpectedly succumbed to the winners unceasing and apparently hopeless efforts. He was evidently short and is an improved horse this year. Syrlin got away badly and had to make up ten lengths to get into a contending position and the effort told on him in the final drive to the wire. Lord Advocate was well up throughout, but evidently outclassed. Cincinnatus, interfered with early, closed a gap in the last half. Satire was running fast at the end after having made up a lot of ground. Agnes D. had a scant chance at the start, but improved her position and is being raced into condition. Paul Clifford retired early and is best in mud. Scratched— 38023 St. Sever, 113; 38725 Scoffer, 99; 38857 Showman, 94. Overweights — Cincinnatus, 1 pound; Ithan, 1. Remorse, show, 2j to 1. Winner — Ch. c, by Juvenal — Numeroet trained by F. McCabe. Went to post at 4:55. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Numeral brought up the rear under a choking pull until in the straight, where he commenced to gain fast, meeting a serious check half way down hill when Hunter Raine swerved in front of him, but recovered and came along with a rush on the outside and won going away. Hunter Raine was sent along after first quarter run, which was run slowly, and gamely stood a long and punishing drive of a half mile down the hill, but was no match for the winner. He likes a cup distance and is probably partial to light weight. Of the others, which were outclassed, McWilliams was easily best and ran a good race. Animosity and Rosanco quit in the run down the long hill. Scratched— 38907aZoroaster, 117; 389292Bon Mot, 111. Overweights — Animosity, 1 pound. Numeral, show, out. Hunter Raine, show, out.
