Most of them are big husky fellows who have not hesitated to use their fists in securing gangway. There have been many instances where inoffensive men were roughly handled, yet could get no redress. In future the "runners" will have to deport themselves with decorum or lose their jobs. The Pinkertons were on the alert all Monday afternoon, with the result that for once there was comparative quiet in the ring, although it was well crowded at all times. J. D. Smith, of Lexington, has decided to ship his six-year-old horse His Lordship, by Rayon dOr— Sallie McClelland, to Latoniato race in hurdle and steeplechase events. His Lordship sold for ,300 as a yearling, but was a disappointment. He has shown "marked ability as a jumper, and It is believed he will be one of the stars in his class at the coming Latonia meeting. If he proves fit he will be sent east later on. President D. J. Campau, of the Detroit Jockey Club, has completed the staff of officials for the Grosse Point running meeting, June 8 to 20. They are Joseph A. Murphy, of St Louis, presiding judge and manager; Major J. M. Womack, of Louisville, Ky., and Judge Henry M. Brevoort, of Detroit, assist--ant judges; C. C. Westfall, secretary; J. J. Holtman, of Chicago, starter; E. D. Lawrence, of Windsor, clerk of the course, and F. W. Gerhardy of Nashville, Tenn., patrol judge.
