The Forum was much the best at the weights. He did not get clear sailing until well straightened out for home, where he moved up fast and easily wore down Herodiade in the closing strides. The latter showed a good burst of speed, but tired palpably when challenged by the winner. Marco ran a good race closing up ground in the last quarter and finishing going fast. Carrie I. ran well for five furlongs. Our Bessie went well, when it is considered that she ran away one and one-half miles before the start. Joe Martin could not concede the weight. Off last and beginning slowly, Domihick loafed along with him until just before turning for home, where he moved up fast and held the field safe all through the final eighth. Dan McKenna came with a rush at the end. Gilfain ran an impressive race, showing speed and tiring only in the final sixteenth. This race should do him much good. Sarah Maxim showed improvement over her last effort finishing going fast. Soothsayer ran fairly well only. Pirate showed early speed and bears watching when placed right. Flying Torpedo, when called on while turning for home tired noticeably and was well beaten in the last eighth. Moor also tired when called on for a final effort. A slow pace was maintained up to the final eighth, which accounts for the poor time.
