Chapman. Went to post at 2:30. At post 5 minutes. Start good. Yon easily; second the same St. Paula easily wore down Milkirk in the last eighth and was going away fast at the end. She is a good, consistent Ally. Katie Powers made up ground in the final quarter and finished fast. General Steward met with no mishaps and ran to his best form. Milkirk off flying, showed much speed, but tired fast when a furlong out. Determination was shut off at the start and had no chance after that. Scratched— Benton, 108. Won driving; second easily. Duke of York moved up fast after taking the ninth jump and outstayed Crest in the last sixteenth struggle. The latter ran her usual honest race and stood a long stretch drive. The two are pretty evenly matched at the weights. Helen Paxton jumped cleanly, but showed little speed on the flat. Farrell sprawled behind and nearly fell over the first jump. The mishap threw him clear out of the race. King Galong ran out just before the fifth jump. Duke of York, show, 1 to 3. Won easily; second the same. Skilful ran to his best form, showed his usual keen turn of speed and never left the result in doubt. He got the whip sharply between the eighth post and paddock. Gregor K. was much the best of the others. He ran true throughout and finished strongly. High Chancellor took kindly to the improved going and came with a rush at the end. Wainamoinen tired after running well for four furlongs. The race should do her much good. Beau Ormonde ran a dull race and probably needs a hard track to run to his best form. First Chip showed early speed. The Lady pulled up very lame. He was taken back after the first mile had been run Barrack served as pacemaker for the first one and a quarter miles and then retired being well beaten after one and three-quarter miles had been run. Cogswell fell away badly beaten after entering the last quarter. Prairie Dog showed some early speed. The others were never serious contenders.
