HARLEM HANDICAP FEATURES. "Twenty-one starters, supplemented by seven possible or doubtful starters, is the present outlook for the Harlem National Handicaps field, and it looks as if at least twenty horses will go to the post for the big race on Saturday," said Secretary Nathanson yesterday evening after receiving information from every possible avenue as to the intention of owners and trainers at Harlem, Hawthorne, Latonia and St. Louis. Twenty starters will break the record in the United States for a winter closed handicap, and it is somewhat remarkable that both the top weight and the bottom weight, McChesney and Manru, are likely to sport silk in the Harlem National. Gorman and Bauer wired the Harlem secretary from Latonia last night that they probably will send Sinner Simon, which won the fourth race at that track yesterday, to run in the big handicap in which his weight is ninety-three pounds. John F. Schorr also wired from Latonia that he does not think he will start Esherin on account of her having incurred a penalty of four pounds by winning the Latonia Oaks Tuesday. From St. Louis T. P. Hayes wired Secretary Nathanson that Jordan will start only if the track is muddy. Jordan is being trained at the present time by Enoch .Wish-ard, the clever director of John A. Drakes stable. Sam Mortons black filly Hoodwink is the latest to break into the ranks of starters for the Harlem National. Her weight is 103 and she will be ridden by the stable jockey, J. Booker. By winning at Hawthorne yesterday Fa-vonius attracted some backing in B. J. Weller s future book. John McGurk worked a good mile at Hawthorne yesterday morning in l:45g, Runnels three-quarters in 1:30. The horses now deemed likely to start are: Horses "Wt. Jockeys.
