SHAWANAS LASSIE STAKES. The track had dried out considerably at Hawthorne yesterday and comparatively fair time was made. The largest crowd of the week was present and witnessed a good days sport. The feature race of the day was the Lassie Stakes, a five-furlong dash for two-year-old fillies. Shawana, against whose chances as good as 4* to 1 could be had, proved the victress, winning by one and a half lengths from Ida Davis, which finished three and a half before Wreath of Ivy. Ida Davis broke through the barrier, unseating her jockey, jumped over the fence and ran away about a quarter of a mile before being caught. Taking this into consideration she ran an excellent race. The stake was worth ,130 to the winner. The third race, a one and one-sixteenth miles dash for three-year-olds and upward, was won easily by Favonius. He led all the way winning by one length and a half from Airljght, which finished a half length before Red Comyn for second place. J Falkland was much the best in the first ; race, a five .furlongs dash for maiden two-year-old colts and geldings. He won by one and one-half lengths from Preakness, which beat Auditor three and a half for .second place. Safeguard, well ridden by Winkfield, took | the second race, a dash of once around the ] track, by two lengths from Lord Melbourne, ! which finished one and a half before Canyon for second place.
