. LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. The M. Lewis Clark Stakes for three-year-olds at a mile and a furlong, with a gross value of ,500, for which a fine field of eleven of the most prominent American Derby candidates is carded, will be run at Harlem today. The variety of weights in the field is due to the various allowances. If all eleven carded start, the race* will be worth ,880 net to the winner, and with two added starters he would win ,005 net and then would incur a penalty of three pounds in the American Derby. The probable starters and riders are as follows: Banter, 117, Crowhurst; Savable, 112, C. Gray; JEarly, 112, J. Winkfleld; Linguist, 112, Henry; Gregor K., 109, P. Phillips; Bernays, 109, T. Knight; Gilfain, 109, J. William; Bad News, 106, Landry; Estrada Palma, 105, H. Booker; The Picket, 105, J. Reiff; Manru, 105, Helgesen. M. H. Thichenor and Co.s string of horses, including the American Derby candidate Flocarline, in charge of trainer H. C. Riddle, arrived Thursday from the east, and is now quartered at Washington Park. All the horses stood the trip well and appear to be in grand form. Jockey Otto Wonderly, who is under contract to ride for the stable, also got in yesterday. It was reported that C. R .Ellison had made P. Dunne an offer of ,000 for Glassfull which was refused. L. N. Hodges, the owner of Ontonagon, Is reported to have stood to win 0,000 had the horse finished first. He placed a sufficent sum on the horse to show to leave him a profit of ,800. Jockey Dominick left last night for St. Louis, where he will ride Lendin in the Derby. Jockey Coburn who will ride Au Revoir, went to the Mound City Thursday night. The judges excused Sidney Sabath from ! starting in the last race, it being reported to them that the horse was sick. Dick Welles debut as a three-year-old on a Chicago racetrack will be keenly watched, and as many tickets have been written on him in the Derby future books, there is much interest in his race today. Judge Himes is a doubtful starter in the 00 handicap, and Prince of Endurance is not of Derby caliber.
