NOTES OF THE TURF. Chambers, Chicago. Captain J. M. Brown was killed at Garfield Park in September 1892. In the second race at St. Louis, June 8, Lustig and Leopard were coupled in, this newspaper as the Schreiber entry, not knowing that Leopard had passed from Mr. Schrei-bers ownership. The Schreiber entry was backed extensively In handbooks at various places. Lustig won at 9 to 1, with Leopard favorite at 2J to 1, second. The equity of the case is this: Backers of Schreibers entry ? are entitled to be paid a winning bet at the " probable odds that would have been laid if * the two horses had been coupled. This as - near as it can be calculated would have been • 8 to 5, with coupled place and show odds In proportion. This in reply tb many queries t about the case, no more of which will be .» answered. Your query has already j been answered in this newspaper. M. B. W. Lyne is the correct spelling of ; his name. ! L. M. K., Chicago.
