Lucien Appleby was not called on until entering the last quarter, where he moved up fast and under a mild drive, withstood Braggs determined challenge in the final sixteenth. The latter ran a good race, standing a long stretch drive and responding with great gameness. He is at his best just now. Caviar showed much speed, but held it for only a little over six furlongs. She displayed keen speed throughout and had plenty to spare at the finish. Marshal Ney stood a long stretch drive and showed gameness. Frank Carr finished fast. Triumvir .tired when the pinch came. Huz-zah and Gold Bell fought it out sharply all through the final sixteenth, the former outstaying Gold Bell. Both horses met with no mishaps and ran to their best form. Sam Fullen appeared dangerous when running opposite the last sixteenth post, but tired palpably in the last one hundred yards and was eased somewhat at the finish. He swung wide turning for home, losing some ground. Flying Torpedo occupied a contending position turning for home toward the inside rail, but tired fast when the pinch same. The sharp pace told on him. Captain Arnold was shouldered out of position at the first turn and had no chance thereafter. Nitrate was never in the hunt. Schwalbe was a keen contender for seven and one-half furlongs. Paul Whaley settled her. Harry ran well for seven furlongs. Scratched— 39786 Rolling Boer, 107. Overweights — Vincennes, 1 pound. He easily ran Sweet Billie into early submission and then came away without much trouble, winning as his rider pleased. Avoid moved up rapidly turning for home and finished very fast. If You Dare was under keen pressure all through the final quarter and finished with determination. Gus Lanka ran a good race and will I bear watching from now on. Sweet Billie showed early speed as usual. Mary Glenn was 1 never a serious contender. Scratched— 39712 Will Shelly, 99. Uranium, show, 3 to 5. Avoid, show, 8 to 5. If You Dare, show, 6 to 5. The latter finished I going fast, but was not good enough to beat the winner. Airlight stood a long stretch 1 drive, but faltered in the closing strides. Sidney C. Love ran a dull race and can do better • when fit. Collonade found the going just a shade too slow to suit him. Sir Hugh was i badly cut off by Big Ben at the half-mile post, losing several lengths. This threw him t out of the race and he never appeared to be able to rally. Overweights — Big Ben, 3 pounds. Big Ben, show, 4 to 1. Serge, show, evens. Airlight, show, 2 to 5. Fleuron stood a long stretch drive and responded with great gameness. Bay Wonder came with a rush at the end and would have won in a few more strides. Evas Darling made up much ground in the last quarter and finished going fast. Lovable tired fast when a furlong out. The going had dried out too much to suit Muresca.
