LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. J. "W. Brooks, manager of the new winter racing enterprise at Los Angeles, Cal., was at "Washington Park yesterday. He will go east and thoroughly canvass the various racing centers to get an idea of the horses that can be expected to race at Los Angeles. After that the stake display will be spread out. Mr. Brooks declares that the new track will open next Christmas Day and run indefinitely. The presiding judgeship of the Buffalo meeting in August has been offered by Mr. S. S. Howland to Frank J. Bryan, who presides at Hawthorne. Mr. Bryan will accept if a substitute can be accepted for him for three days of the Buffalo meeting, which conflicts with his engagement at Hawthorne. "Woodford and Buckner disposed yesterday of Bad News to E. R. Bradley for ,500. Later Mr. Bradley was offered ,000 profit to sell the horse to a person representing an eastern stable. Irene LIndsey was purchased yesterday from S. C. Hildreth by E. E. Smathers for the reported price of ,500 and will accompany McChesney to New York. Jockeys "Wonderly, Henry and Adkins were given permission yesterday by the judges to ride in the Hyde Park Stakes.- "Wonderly was also permitted to ride Federal in the second race. Jockey Coburn, who has been in bad repute with his contract employer, G. C. Bennett, since the close of the Hawthorne meeting, and was ejected from the grounds of the Harlem Jockey Club by order of Judge Hamilton, rode Ort "Wells yesterday in the Hyde Park Stakes. Coburn did the weight, 118, handily, and displayed a flash of his old-time riding ability. Jockey H. Booker, formerly in the employment of C. R. Ellison, arrived yesterday from St. Louis and will in future ride free lance. Hot, which won the closing race yesterday, emerged from the maiden class by his victory, although priorily often placed to a number of good horses since his debut as a racer. C. B. Reid stated yesterday that he has deferred shipment of the Middleton and Jung- I f bluth horses until Sunday. Originally it was j ! his intention to ship today. j j Trainer E.
