Interval, always alert and a fast beginner, after practically pulling to the early pacemaker, went to the front on the far turn, gamely holding her own to the finish and was probably best today. Salvatella, a speedy sort of filly and luckily in a forward position at the start, closed up very fast at the end, just getting up to beat the badly-ridden Ascension for second place. The latter broke in front and held a prominent position throughout, but unexpectedly failed to make good in the final quarter, was badly ridden and in addition was probably conditioned for a longer distance. Dinksie closed a big gap from a bad start and ran a surprisingly good race. Biserta steadily improved her position and ran the best race of her extra form for her and is very ordinary. career on a fast track. Midnight Chimes is in good Courtmaid broke well and could not raise a gallop. She ran a very bad race. Eva Russell retired after running prominently to the far turn and her race was also very Ppor. Kramer. Went to post at 3:00. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same Jocund won as if he outclassed the field, broke flatfooted and was extremely lucky to get through next to the rail in the first sixteenth and, taking second position, was under a drive throughout to overhaul Letola, passing her only in the last furlong and, coming away comfortably when he was suddenly brought to a hard drive to stall off The Southerner. The latter is a slow beginner and, occupying an inside position at the post, was roughly treated in the first sixteenth and compelled to take to the extreme outside for clear sailing. He made up a lot of ground, closing at the end with a tremendous rush. Pentaur must have got away wrong foot foremost as he was unexpectedly outrun all up the backstretchllnd was under the whip almost throughout, but gained rapidly in the last three furlongs, although on the outside of the field on the turn and finished running past horses at the end. Pristina worked through a rough journey and finished fast. Letola forced a terrific pace and held on extremely gamely and appeared like she was eased up prematurely when in third place. Topic was shuffled back and in the final quarter closed like a whirlwind. ,„„S9fatched— 39940Goldspink, 115; 40256 Graziallo, 112; 39672 Florizel, 109; 403072Tomcod. 102; Southampton, 102. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Roehampton is in great form and in spite of chronic soreness improves under severe exactions. Everyone started out at a funeral pace and this helped Roehampton, which made his own running to the half, where he suddenly went on fast and at the end of the final sprint that the race resolved itself down to, he won practically pulled up. Proper followed the winner under a choking pull and for a horse that requires, strong pace he put .up a game effort at the end. He signally failed, however, to make any impression on the winner in the final quarter-mile dash. Oom Paul trailed the other two and, with a half a dozen lengths the worst of it. was left far in the rear when real racing commenced Scratched— 40327 W. R. Condon, 114; 402573Circus, 111. At post 8 minutes. Start straggling. Won handily; second driving. Hurstbourne closed up on the leaders in the stretch run and came away at the end as if they had been anchored, outclassed his field and is a crack three-year-old. King Pepper is in rare form and favors this track, got away well and forced such a pace that both Astarita and Hurstbourne were driving early. He stuck to his work in an unexpectedly game manner and the race was the best he has shown this year. Astarita. beat the barrier, but in spite of Bullmans endeavors to retain his advantage she was outrun and at the ena she tired badly. Tarn oShanter closed a big gap, finished with a tremendous rush and looks like a coming good one. Operator was closing up like a cyclone at the end. Sir "Vfcorhies finished close up and is immensely improved. Northern Star found the pace so hot that he could never get up. Unmasked, acting very badly, had no chance at the start. Dublin was cut down and probably ruined by St. Finnan, which fell on the backstretch. Scratched — 101862Bellario, 100; 40328 John A. Scott, 96. As usual he led throughout and gamely stood off a strong challenge from Stroller. The latter was thought to be the best, but got away poorly and rushed up into a contending .position in the first furlong and delayed too long, probably in trying conclusions with the winner, which he was wearing down fast at the end. Ella Snyder broke slowly on the extreme outside and was under the whip in getting up in the first half mile and held on gamely. Dekaber fell away at a critical moment on the back-stretch and was closing up well at the end. Homestead was unable to hold his position in the first furlong and was roughly treated thereafter, but was closing up fast at the end. Orloff and Khitai both held on to their positions well.
