Rostand quickly overcame interference at the start and his jockey rode a confident looking race In third position to the far turn, where he was sent into the lead in a few strides, coming away easily at the end. Albany Girl followed close on the winners heels from start to finish and ran a game race. Syrlins superior early speed quickly found him in front, in spite of a bad sendoff and a wide first turn. He held his advantage for nearly six furlongs and tired badly in the stretch. Kingraines rider timidly relinquished a good position on the first turn and thereafter the horse had more or less difficulty to secure clear sailing, but was closing up fast at the end and was evidently second best. The others were beaten off. Scratched— 38281 Sedition, 101; 40349 Mabel Richardson, 96. Corrected weights— Rostand, 99; Albany Girl, 87; Neither One, 103; Dark Planet, 106: Collegian, 107; Nodo, 94. He took the lead in the early running and won off by himself, easing up in the stretch. Ohnet fenced skillfully for the first -mile, but tiring as the race progressed, commenced to lose ground at the obstacles and was probably lucky to save second place. Bob Alone shows improvement and finished well up. George Keene tired all over after running in the first flight for a mile. "Woolgatherer seemed to be well beaten when he fell at the second from the last jump. Goldray was moving up fast when he fell a half mile from home and but for which he would probably have been second. Won easily; second driving. Lord Badge, evidently at his best, forced the pace throughout and when straightened out for home in the stretch came away with plenty in reserve. Himself raced head and head with the winner for seven furlongs before he let go and then under Odoms tremendous finish gamely saved second place. W. R. Condon received a bad ride and Redfern continually ran him up on top of horses and in the stretch he finally went into a hopeless pocket. Black Hussar appeared to lack the speed necessary to get into a contending position, but was going well at the finish. Tugai Bey went wide on all the turns and fell away In the final drive under inadequate handling. Faulconbridge was a prominent contender for more than seven furlongs. Astarita ran as if she far outclassed her field and won all the way with ridiculous ease."1 Futurita gamely led the others .and was at no time menaced for second place. Stamping Ground, after showing her usual inclination to bear out, finished fast through the stretch. Rosetint was vigorously ridden from the start, but failed to make much headway and was at no time dangerous. Mamie Worth was given a* bad ride. Redfern has seemingly lost his former skill as a jockey and his efforts on the favorite capped the climax. He pulled up at the start and ran her into several pockets and then gave her a weak finish when too late to get up. * Scratched — 40309 Daisy Green, 121; 403283Gravina, 109; 40373 Eva Russell. 109 40058 Mis* Dorothy, 109; 40373 Mary Street, 109; 34607*Virgin Soil, 109; Double Shuffle, 106. Won driving; second the same. Pentaur got away poorly and was permitted time to get into his stride and, although compelled to take to the outside for clear sailing, he swept everything before him in the stretch and won going away like a real good one. Latheron, improved and luckily placed, swerved across half a dozen contenders near the end and scored a lucky second. Race King was crowded in the last sixteenth and tiring fast after making the running. Marmee showed unexpected good form in an actual race after having worked phenomenal trials. Pristina broke flatfooted and was practically pocketed from start to finish. Tomcod tired and swerved badly in the stretch after having given the pacemaker a stiff argument for five furlongs. Roehampton was sent right along with a view of killing Counterpoise off, drawing away at the end of a tremendously fast six furlongs and cantered home alone.
