Won easily; second the same Schwalbe beat the flag two lengths, but was passed by Cruzados in the first quarter and appeared to be beaten turning into the last quarter, but rallied fast when a furlong out and easily wore down the latter in the last hundred yards. Cruzados showed a great flash of early speed and appeared to have the race well in hand in the final eighth, but faded away fast when challenged by the winner. Rag Tag came with a rush in the last sixteenth, wearing down John Peters in the closing strides. The latter broke flatfooted.and had little chance by the time he had gotten into his full stride. F. — g, by — trained by Rector. Went to post at 3:00. At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won easily; second driving. Paui-aker, always well up, assumed command taking the ninth jump, and, although headed by Indian H. just after taking the last jump, came easily in the final eighth, winning as bis rider pleased. Ceylon moved up rapidly after taking the eighth jump and finished going fast, getting up in time to nip Indian II. on the post. The latter stumbled after taking the eighth jump, losing some ground, and this about cost hini the race, as the making up of the lost advantage took all the stamina out of him in the final struggle. Spurs ran an impressive race under a clever and powerful ride. Falella faltered in the final eighth struggle. Imperialist fell away beaten after taking the fifth jump. John McGee fell over the eighth and Dr. Nowlin over the twelfth jump. Scratched— 40344 Alma Girl, 129. • Paulaker, show, G to 1. Ceylon, show, evens. Indian II., show, 3 to 2. Dick Welles showed his usual rare turn of speed and never left the result in doubt, running well within himself all the way. McGee was under a hard drive in the last eighth, easily wearing down Orsina in the last sixteenth. The latter tired fast when a furlong out. Sir Hugh showed early speed, but was well beaten when entering the last quarter. Gilfain was never a serious contender. Won driving; second the same. | I Bessie McCarthy was taken back when running down the backstretch and then moved up fast on Hargis turning for home. She was taken next to the inside rail when a furlong out, • and standing a long hard drive, finished with great determination. Luclen Appleby swung a little wide turning for home, but responded gamely under a hard drive and finished going fast. Won driving; second easily. : I Hayward Hunter began slowly, but made his run when turning for home and, in a rattling last sixteenth struggle, outstayed Barrica. He crowded the latter somewhat in the closing strides and a foul was claimed, but not allowed. Bai-rica ran her usual honest race and stood a long stretch drive, but tired just a shade in the closing strides. Little Elkin finished with a rush on. his own courage. Leflare fell away beaten when turning for home after showing much speed., Prince Blazes displayed a. lot of speed, but tired fast in the final eighth. Myth showed some early speed. Corbett showed speed, but fell away beaten when a furlong out. Si Ah showed a little early speed. The others were never serious contenders. Scratched— 3924G Schwarzwald, 109.
