BIG RACE DECLARED OFF. To the intense disappointment of thousands of expectant patrons of the turf the race set for today at Brighton Beach between those great stars of the turf, McChesney and Water Boy, has been declared off. The reason for this action is fully set forth* in the following dispatch received yesterday by Daily Racing Form from Secretary Boden. Brighton Beach Race Track, N. T., July 21. — The Championship Special in which "Water Boy and McChesney wer,e to have met at Brighton tomorrow has been declared off. After a very satisfactory trial this morning McChesney pulled up lame. An examination by Dr. Sheppard showed that the horse had bruised the inside quarter of his off foot and he was pronounced unfit to race. In view of the general interest taken in the proposed contest by the public the association makes this announcement at the very earliest moment possible. John Boden, Secretary. This dispatch does not seem to indicate that" McChesney is anything more than temporarily incapacitated and with the careful and skillful attention he is sure to receive it may be assumed that his meeting with Water "Boy Is merely postponed. It is to be regretted that Brighton Beach officials will fall to reap the reward their enterprise in this case richly deserved.
