Lord Hermence waited behind the leaders to the stretch, then shot to the front and won cased up. Wigwam, off badly, closed up fast in the stretch and was going strongly at the end. Don Alvaro lost his speed after going a fast half. Signorina ran as if a trifle short of work. Scratched — 39852 Lampadrome, 105. Overweights — Don Alvaro, 4 pounds. Lord Hermence, show, 4 to 5. Start good for all but Broodier. Won easily; second driving. Nearest got away badly and was allowed to take her time to the half mile, then went past her horses and won as her rider pleased. Reducer ran in improved form and finished gamely. Dr. Kammerer was sharply cut off on the second turn and much used in the effort to get up and tired in the stretch run, but outgamed Macbeth at the finish. Macbeth set a fast pace, then tired. Ciales did not run his best race, but got off poorly. Venus Victrix showed early speed. Overweights — Mr. Dooley, 2 pounds. Nearest, show, out. Reduce!, show, evens. Athena was carefully rated behind and kept close to the rail, saved a lot of ground when the leaders swung wide, caught them tiring in the last quarter and won in the final stride. Ocyrohe, Dr. Cartledge and Pretension ran head and head around the turn and bumped each other hard to the eighth post. Here Ocyrohe crossed Dr. Cartledge and caused Smith to pull him up. Ocyrohe then ran across the track and fouled Athena. Pretension swerved to the outside in the last few strides and fouled Dr. Cartledge, which was closing up fast. The others were not contenders. Ocyrohe and Pretension were disqualified. Athena, show, 1 to 3. Dr. Cartledge, show, evens. Sartor Resartus, show, 2 to 1. Ocyrohe, show, 3 to 5. Pretension, show, 1 to 2. Memphiari began slowly, but closed up ground gradually, liked the soft track and finished fast. Murmur ran well, but was twice cut off and much used during the race. Baronet , ran in much improved form. Eugenia S. showed speed to the stretch, then tired. Galanthus was right there to the mile and gave it up. Scratched— 40360Brown Vail, 102. Overweights — Murmur, 2 pounds; Belle Simpson, 3; Ida Penzance, 3; Miss Eon 3 Memphian, show, 6 to 5. Murmur, show, out. Baronet, show, 24 to 1.
