Peter Paul broke flying and showed a great turn of speed, but began to tire slightly in the last eighth where Auditor drew up on even terms with him and in a spirited finish out-gamed him. The latter was a little slow to get into his stride, but made up ground rapidly just before turning for home and stood a long stretch drive with great gameness. Commodore tired Palpably in the last eighth struggle. Nettie Dutchman and Codex snowed a ™ * little early speed. Blue Darter ran a dull race. Zazel came with a rush at the end when running next to the inside rail, catching Modicum tiring in the last fifty yards. The latter showed much speed, but hung palpably in the closing strides. He ran in bar plates. The Conqueror H. was pocketed just opposite the last eighth post, but got clear in the last hundred yards and finished going fast. Alfred C. would not be denied and finished sturdily under keen punishment all through the close and exciting last sixteenth struggle. Major Tenny finished running next to the inside rail. He stood a gruelling drive with gameness but could not quite get up. Rolling Boer finished with a rush. Lingo was closing up fast on those in front of her in the last hundred yards. The others were never serious contenders.
