Winner— Blk. h, by Victory— Thanks trained by H. B. Durham. Went to post at 2:35. At post 5 minutes. Start fair. Won easily; second driving. Operator, in his right element at the weights, also lucky at the start and skillfully handled, waited patiently in behind the front division to the stretch, where he flashed through on the inside into a winning lead and won going away. Forward held a front position until straightened for home in the stretch, where he temporarily dropped back, coming again very fast at the end. Ingold, the top weight, made all the running and was given a poorly-judged ride in permitting a lightweight non-stayer like Cassville to force him to his best endeavors in the early stages and was tiring at the end. Duelist closed a big gap from a bad start. Fuller rode a daring and skillful race, working through a rough journey and closing up like a cyclone at the end on the outside. Knight of Harlem steadily improved his position and finished fast. St. Daniel was outpaced early and crowded out of his position. Cassville showed early speed. Captivator was hopelessly pocketed after the first furlong and had worked a fas trial for this race. Scratched — 40376 Northern Star, 136; 40398 Presentation, 115; 40312 Queen Boula. . 112: 36429 G. Dinah Shadd, quite keyed up and favored with extra good luck and a vigorous ride, lasted out. the journey gamely after practically forcing the pace from start to finish. Luminosity, suddenly improved, was always a prominent contender and at the end was going well. Ned Moore, energetically ridden and luckily third, showed great Improvement. Short Cake got away badly and made up a lot of ground, but swerved to the inside in the stretch and was pocketed at the end. Flower, nearly left, closed an immense gap and must have been the best. Florizel was prominent for five furlongs. Sandhurst was pulled up in the stretch and unable to get an opening. Arthur has a good private reputation. Circus trailed to the stretch, where he wore the others down in the last quarter with a rush under a good ride. Articulate, after indulging Justice with the lead for six furlongs, went to the front and appeared to have the race won and was taking matters easy when a six- teenth out Larson nearly fell off when the winner came along and was lucky to be second. Sambo, in a good position while going up the backstretch, suddenly fell away as if he sulked and then commenced to make up ground with phenomenal speed when too late. Daly ran in suddenly improved form and was a prominent contender throughout, only losing third place in the last stride. Cogswell was probably outclassed at any rate, but Connell lost ground by going wide with him on the turns. Justice should give a good account of himself among ordinary selling platers. Winner — Br. c, by Kingstock — Carmencita trained by A. Shields. Went to post at 4:00. At post 2 minutes. Start bad. Won in a canter; second driving. Andy Williams is in rare form and outclassed his field. He trailed in a rear position to the half, where he set sail after the flying leader and displayed such a phenomenal turn of speed that he found himself in the lead in less than a sixteenth, after which he did not have to extend himself to win by a good margin. Bellario went right out to make the running and sustained his superior speed gamely throughout. Irascible finished with a tremendous rush. Ethics steadily improved his position. Bon Mot was lame before the race and, being bumped at the start, was nearly left and, although making up a lot of ground, he ran a comparatively dull race and below his best form. Homestead and The Rival both both finished well up. The latter showed improvement. Scratched — 10399 Colonsay, 99; 40452 Dark Planet, 93. Overweights — Homestead, 2 pounds. Winner— Ch. c, by Mirthful— Flower Dellis trained by C. Kremerson. Went to post at 4:30. At post 5 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second handily. Jocund is both fast and a rare game one, got away in his stride and forced the pace throughout, and in spite of being momentarily passed when straightened for home, he kept on coming and finally got up again in the last stride after being pinned in next to the rail in the last furlong. Montana King was well placed while going up the backstretch, and taking matters easy was at length forced to make his run on the outside when turning into the stretch and his rush carried him into the lead, which he failed to retain, however, and "it appeared as if he tired slightly at the end. Little Em made a remarkable debut among this kind, worked a rough journey from an indifferent start, closing up at the end with a tremendous rush and finished going fastest of all. Hazelwood made up ground in the last half, but was evidently short. Jim Kelly quit unexpectedly in the last quarter after racing Jocund a quarter at a terrific clip on the far turn and may have been short. Gold Dome went at a steady clip throughout. Pol Roger, about due, forced the winner along in the first part. , , Overweights— Hazelwood, 1 pound; „ Pol „ Roger, 1. Jocund, show, 1 to 4. Montana King, show, 4 to 5. Little Em. show, 8 to 5. Khitai quickly went to the front in the stretch after getting away well and showing speed sufficient to keep well up in the front division until ready to come on. Blue Victor was also well up at all times and finished fast although he tired right at the end after he ap-Deared to have a chance to win. Anak closed up ground steadily from start to finish. The Recent tired badly in the last quarter, after an early effort to catch the pacemaker. Paul Clifford set a sizzling pace for six furlongs, but quit suddenly on the stretch turn and was probably short. Reformer met with a lot of interference.
