Practices of this kind should be discouraged. The track yesterday, notwithstanding the heavy rain in the city, was better than at any previous time this year. The report that McChesney had injured himself in his workout, thereby causing a postponement of the meeting of Water Boy and the Smathers horse, was heard with genuine regret by horsemen at the track. The majority were of the opinion that had the two great four-year-olds met McChesney would have proved the victor. The finish in the fourth race was one of the best witnessed on a local track.
