GOSSIP OF THE TURF. A new string of horses which will carry their colors for the first time in 1904 has just arrived at Memphis. They belong to C. C. Christie, the Kansas City broker, who has hankered for running horses since his friend and partner, E. E. Smathers, achieved success with McChesney. There are nineteen nicely bred and good looking yearlings in the Christie string, which is in charge of D. Benson, a former trainer and driver of har- ness horses. Another newcomer to turf patrons in 1904 will be H. L. Coleman, a wealthy Memphian. who has accumulated enough of the worlds financial goods to risk a handsome investment in the purchase of a score or more of Kentucky yearlings. Trainer Frazier has already developed one youngster with speed enough to cause the tongues to wag about a quarter having been negotiated in less than 23 seconds. He is a bay, by Ben Strome, sire of the champion Highball.
