LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Continued from first page. W. D. Twyman who recently purchased Mary McCafferty from S. C. Hildreth and then lost her to J. J. McCafferty in a selling race, had to taste a little more of the bitter that is found in racing. Shortly after McCafferty took the filly from him, Twyman purchased Ocean Dream. Yesterday Twyman is reported to have backed his new purchase for several thousand dollars and had to see Mary McCafferty beat her out by a short head. Jim Hale, after a number of attempts, finally managed to make good. His performance, however, was nothing sensational.
