CITY PARK FEATURE GOES TO ALMA DUFOUR. Big Crowd and Heavy Betting Goldmate Is Badly Injured Jockey Koerner Is Fined. New Orleans, La., January 8. Jackson Day brought great returns In a racing way at City Iark today. The anniversary of the battle of New Orleans was celebrated by the holiday folks in a battle with the layers. The crowd wasfar lictter than was expected and the volume of business in the ring was probably better than on any other day of the meeting. Many of the books were simply flooded with the commissions and iu several races the money of the publie went begging. The Old Hickory Handicap was a great race. Goldmate was cut down iu his race Saturday and so badly injured that his chances of racing again iu the immediate future are slim. One of the colts eyes was also injured. He may lose the sight of it.
