JOCKEY NIC0L IS SUPERSTITIOUS. Memphis, Tenn., January 17. When Dave Nicol, the Chicago lad who led all the jockeys for twelve months work in the saddle dnring 100.", received a copy of Daily Racing Form with the statistics which placed him in the -lead of jockeys for the year, lie Immediately wrote to a friend here expressing himself in a manner that shows he is nor averse to superstitious ideas. "I felt as early as June," wrote Nicol, "that I was bound to lead the list for the year. I carried a luck piece in the shape of a gold medal Mickey Shannon let me wear. I hung it around my neck in every race 1 rode Sysonby and never lost a race. I forgot it many times and can truthfully say that I never won a race during the entire season without the little medal on my person. Mickey told me when he gave it to me that it would bring me luck. It brought him luck, too, for it was presented to him you Memphis friends of his when he trained his first stake winner."
