LAST CHERRY IS MUCH ALIVE AND WELL. Filly Reported Dead at Belmont Park Carded to Start Today at City Park. New Orleans, La., January 10. In the early spring last year at Lexington Catcsby Woodford had a two-year-old filly which was considered a great racing prospect by all who witnessed her phenomenal trials over the old Kentucky Association track. Her name was Last Cherry. She was shipped east with the hope of winning some of the important fixtures. The filly developed a ferocious temper and her trainer, Woodford Clay, could do nothing with her. She was passed over to Tom Welsh, who in turn handed her over to Ui S. Wlshard, who has a reputation for subduing unruly horses. While being led out of the paddock to start in a race at Belmont Park last fall Last Cherry reared up and, falling backward, landed on her back and broke her tail. It was thought at the time that she was seriously injured and a report was sent out that the filly had been destroyed. Such was not the case, however, though for a long time it seemed doubtful if she would recover. Wishard nursed her along and she is in good condition. again., Vere .
