NOTES OF THE TURF. Robert Waddells two-year-old brother Is a brown colt and named Greenways Best. Newton Benningtons two-year-old bay colt, Long-way, by Longstreet Footsore, is dead. A few moments after its birth on January 29, the foal by Commando, out of Calico, died at Castleton Stud. Thomas E. OBrien, fnmlliary known to turf followers as "Chicago OBrien," left here last night for Los Angeles. NewtoU Bennington, it is announced, has decided to take two subscriptions to the Saratoga Special again this year. The chestnut colt by Golden Garter Fascination, is being heralded by the folks about Gravesend aa the best two-year-old in the lot that Jimmy McLaughlin will take to Bennlngs. James Krayling has been engaged by E. S. Gardner as trainer for the season of 1000 and has taken charge of Mr. Gardners horses at Cumberland Park, Nashville. Mr. Frayling developed Father Catcbem last year. A. L. Astes stallion Jack Point and the mares Sweet Marjorle half sister to Nasturtium, Eyelet ami Silver Bell, have been transferred from the farm of Baker and Gentry, near Lexington, Ky., to Catesby Woodfords Raceland Stud, near Paris, Ky. Patrick Deegan, the man who handled Manifesto, twice winner ot the Grand National Steeplechase, has decided to try his luck as a trainer In America, if he can secure an engagement. Deegan is regarded as one ot the best of steeplechase trainers in Ireland. Jolly Girl, the seven-year-old daughter of Ester-ling Fun, by Petrarch, died just after being taken oft the cars at Lexington last week. She was the property of W. L. Powers vand had been shipped from New York to go to Stonewall Stud for the breeding season. A few hours before her death she had slipped her foal by Chevening.
