Start fair. Won driving; second handily. Mafalda was best handled, assumed the lead at once, but was tiring near the end and barely lasted long enough. Mayor Johnson, probably best, ran a good race, but lost because of poor handling. Lucullus. away badly, had to run all around the others, but finished going fast and outlasted Mordella. Idalia. away well and favored by the soft track, assumed a long lead at once and held her opponents safe for the entire trip, winning with plenty in reserve. Mimics Daughter, away poorly and running in the worst going, closed a big gap and finished going fast. Mediant had no mishaps and ran a fairly good race. Maxim Gorky showed improvement and will make good soon. KIngcette showed a brief flash of speed. The others ran green. Overweights Maxim Gorky, 2 pounds. O f A THIRD RACE 1 Mile and 70 Yards. Red Leaf, reserved in the early stages, wore down Cutter after going three-quarters anil seemed an easy winner after assuming the lead, but Radtke grew careless near the end and began easing up, causing Red Leaf to shorten her stride and she barely lasted long enough to stall off Jack Young. The latter ran a sparkling race and finished witli a rush. Cutter tired all over after going three-quarters and can do much better. Sauielson was shuttled back soon after the start, but worked his way into a contending position and stood a hard drive gamely. Fruit was knocked back at the start and lost much ground by going wide, but finished fast and was probably best. Baylaw ran a good race and was probably a trifle short. Excitement suffered from much interference early, but came fast with clear sailing and was unlucky to lose. Dr. McCarty ran a good race and will improve. Kizil showed scant speed and seemingly disliked the going. King Abyssinia and Susie Gregg tired badly after being prominent in the early running.
