Merlingo got away well, but was reserved for the first quarter, seemed Inclined to loaf and had to be hard ridden Ju the middle quarter, but came on fast in the stretch and Avon going away. Klzil showed much speed, but tired unexpectedly under AA-eak handling. Townes ran a fairly good race, closing a big gap in the last furlong. Kuropatkln tired badly from chasing Klzil. Margaret Morris, away fully in motion, ran Into a long lead, but tired unexpectedly in the last sixteenth after appearing a certain winner. Duchess of Dantzic ran a good race and is snowing steady improvement. Willcox sbOAved speed, but tired badly. Cutter trailed in, the early running and lost ground by going Avide into the stretch, but finished fast and outgamed Aaron J. in the last sixteenth. The latter could not concede the weight asked and probably disliked the slippery going. H. L. Frank tired badly in the last furlong. Overweights Excitement, 4 pouuds; H. L. Frank, 11.
