ALTA MDONALD DISQUALIFIED FOR FOUL. Pins Hybrid to the Rail Steeplechase Race a Chapter of Accidents Nicol Is 111. Cincinnati, O.. July 13. The disqualification of Alta .McDonald in the second race at Latonia today, met with general approval. Throughout the last sixteenth he and Hybrid were head and head, driving to the limit. Hybrid had the rail and a hundred yards from the finish Alta McDonald pressed him so closely as to almost put the colt over the fence. Morris had to pull up short. But for the interference. Hybrid would very likely have won and certainly would have been second. The setting back of Alta McDonald placed Demo first, Hybrid second, and Elected third. The steeplechase had more than the usual quota of mishaps, as Eneda, Snowdrift aud Dell Lcath fell, while Ninepin bolted. T. Casey, rider of Dull Leath, had his foot crushed and Porter on Snowdrift sustained a wrench of the shoulder. Snowdrift was a strongly fancied favorite. The winner, Jim Boze-man, must have been one of the best things that the steeplechase brigade has turned loose this summer. He had so much speed that he probably would have won had all the others stood up and gone the course. He led from start to finish and won pulled up. The winner will be barred from starling until his behavior at the post improves. A half dozen good things bobbed tip In the juvenile race, which was for maidens, the particular fancies being Sagapanak, Friendship and Hybrid. Saga-pauak was sent here some time ago from New York by Carroll Held and had worked well enough to merit support. He ran green and tried to bolt. Russell, who rode Slgmund in the steeplechase, was fined 00 by the starter for misbehavior at the post aud A. W. Booker was lined 0 in the second. In this race jockeys Bredin and Aubuchon engaged in a whipping match in the stretch, for which the judges will fix punishment later. After the races yesterday Frank Chllders, an ex-steeplechase jockey, assaulted John Hogan, starter Iloltmans first assistant. Childers was arrested and, to discourage similar occurences, the Jockey Club will press the prosecution against him vigorously. Jockey Nicol was too ill to ride today. He Is prostrated by the heat. Jockey E. Robinson left today for ills koine in Cleveland.
