Botanist, from a striding start, quickly established a small lead and held it to the end, was well served by hugging the inner rail and won going away. Tourenne, with an outside position, ran alongside the winner to the turn, where he commenced to bore out and finished on the extreme outside and lost enough ground to insure his defeat. Eddie Ware got into third position directly after the start and stayed there to the end in a game effort. Smiling Tom, a very slow beginner and again nearly left and honelessly outpaced in the early stages, finished with his usual end rush. Shackle Improved his position throughout. Captain Emericli ran a poor race and failed to stay after showing moderate early speed. The others were beaten off. Scratched 02513 Royal Ben, 102. Woodsaw, from a dying start, set the pace all the way, hut scored a lucky win and was driving h?rd at the end. Azelina, away badly, closed a big gap into a fast going second. Robin Hood, from an indifferent break, was reserved today and finished moderately fast, but stripped sore and unlit. Gambrinus showed superior speed and maintained it gamely, but ran as if short. Fleur de Marie, shullled to the rear at the start, closed up much ground in the last half.- Varietes held on moderately well. Lucy Young, choked in the early running with disastrous results, could have been away out in front, but quit badly. Confessor likes mud. Hot Toddy outbroke the others and stole a long lead on the first turn, made the running well in hand and came away from all stretch challenges with reserved speed. Nemesis, outpaced in the early running, elosed up with a great rush In the stretch, is a stayer and improving steadily. First Premium, from an outside position at the start, broke slowly, but ran within striking distance from the start, moved up on the list turn and momentarily appeared dangerous, but tired under his weight when driven. Red Friar, after being reserved In the early running, moved up rapidly in the last half and caught and passed Belle of Pequest as if she was anchored in the last sixteenth. Belle of Pequest set a sizzling pace and heiu on very gamely for second place. Lotus Eater commenced to lose ground after going the first half arid, being carefully nursed, came again in the last quarter and gamely earned third place. Corn Blossom trailed for half the journey, moved up like a Hash on the far turn and. after momentarily menacing the winner, fell away in the last furlong. Tyron was in close and patient pursuit of the leaders for half the journey, then suddenly shot into the lead and never relinquished it. winning a lucky race. Embarrassment, on the Inside, was pocketed and -liut off when the winner made his run at the half and failed to get up in a sensational stretch sprint, but was best. Little Scout limbered up today, moved up Into forward contention on the backstretch and menaced the leader all of the last furlong, but could never quite get up. Leila ran from a bad last into forward contention in the middle half and her race was a cracker. Tartan held his own moderately well, but can do better. Jennie McCabe retired after an early effort at pacemaking. Corrigan ran poorly and is acting like a snlker. Scratched 03795Lord Badge, 9S. Won driving: second and third the same. Bariugo, a slow breaker, got away well after getting clear sailing, was outpaced, in the early stages, but closed up rapidly on the turn and, finishing fast, won out decisively. Revenue outbroke and outpaced the others for live furlongs, but tired and was headed in the last half dozen strides. Sphinx steadily improved his position after getting away poorly and caught the non-staying Manila for third place right at the end. The latter tired after strenuous early pursuit of the pacemaker. Lady Vincent ran forwardly for the first half, hut also failed to stay. Economy, away poorly, made up ground continually. Cltrona ranllke a quitter. Princess Carrie had scant chance at the start, was securely pocketed throughout and was heavily bandaged behind. Scratched Curley May, 107; Miss Spooner, 107. Overweights Princess Carrie, 3 pounds.
