NOTES OF THE TURF. The apprentice allowances of Jockeys Burlcy Christian and W. Huntington expired yesterday. Stakes for the fall meeting at Toronto closed last night. Secretary Fraser is at Saratoga and is confident of a splendid entry list. Martin Nathanson Is rustling among the easterners for promises of some of the best horses for the winter racing in New Orleans. There will be racing at only two tracks Thursday and Friday. Fort Erie closes on Wednesday and Windsor does not open until Saturday. A racegoer found a watch and fob hanging to a button on his coat as he came out of the betting ring at Saratoga Wednesday, and turned It over to Detective Beutler. The-efforts of certain morality professors to make a "tight town" of Toronto is getting on the nerves of the population. Some of the newspapers have Intimated to the holier-than-thou aggregation that it ia time for them to skidoo.
