BE MMD WINS FLATBUSH. ELECTIONEER AND FOUNTAINBLUE FAIL TO FINISH IN THE MONEY. Lakeland Blames Shaw Bedouin Triumphs in the Century. Stakes John M. P. Scores in the Great Autumn Steeplechase. New York. September S. At Sheepshead Bay today about 30,000 ppople saw Do Mnnd vanquish the ttower of eastern two-year-olds in the Flatbush Stakes, the crucial juvenile race of the year, at seven furlongs. The eight starters included the celebrities Electioneer and Kountainblue. The winner was as good as 15 to 1 in the betting and had little more than an exercise gallop to lead his opponents from end to end in the fast time of 1:25. The iguominous downfall of Electioneer and Fountain-blue created a tremendous furore, but it was conceded on all sides that their showing was too bad to be true. Nest to the defeat of Court Dress and Pope Joan in the Great Filly Stakes, todays running of the Flatbush Stakes ranks as one of the great turf sensations of the season. William Lakeland declared that Electioneers race was "not his best effort by a thousand pounds," and waxed very wroth over Shaws alleged mishandling of the cojt. lie broke Into a frenzy as the race progressed with Electioneer losing ground steadily, and stood transfixed and hardly daring to breathe during the Futurity heros sensational move on the far turn, but when the colt failed utterly in the stretch, Lakeland fell back Into his seat with a groan, his face taking on an ashen hue and forthwith commenced reviling Shaw and nscrilted the Voter colts unexpectedly bad race to the jockeys questionable efforts. Regarding Electioneer reported sale he replied briefly that he diil not know whether he would pass out of his possession or not. The Century Stakes produced a good contest. The race was slowly run which told against The Picket and he was left behind in the closing half mile sprint which resulted in .a. head victory for Bedouin, a more seasoned horse than Fine Cloth. John M. P. "lacked the"" dash he dlsplayed-In his preceding victory nnd although he won the Great Autiilnn Steeplechase this afternoon. It was only af tei a very great effort on his part. The majority of expects now deny his right to be classed with such a horse as Good and Plenty. J. II. Madigan, a Canadian owner, won a fortune with Elllcott In the first race. Every book in the ring lost heavily to the race. It is said that the owner won fully 5,000. This coup, however, dwindled into insignificance when compared with the Drake-Gates winnings on Royal . Lady. Mr., Drake smilingly remarked as he turned away after nodding a protecting bid to the ,400 run-up that followed the victory of the Royal Flush III. Ally: "I did pretty well, but my winnings today are trifling compared with what I won on her daddy a few years back on the English turf." A canvass of the ring disclosed the fact that the wagering on Royal Lady began "with the opening of the price and continued steadily to the start. Trainer Jack .Toyner says that Water Pearl is going along well in his work and will be fully keyed up for a decisive meeting with his two great rivals, Salvidere and De Mund in the Junior Champion Stakes, to which all three are eligible.
