Black Mantilla, away forwardly, forced the foace from the start and seemed beaten on the stroich turn, but under hard urging came again and outlasted J. W. ONeill. The latter was speedy and a sharp factor all the way and only tired in the final strides. Haughty, much the best, was given a bad ride and In close quarters during- the early running, saved ground when turning into the stretch and. finishing fast, would have won In a few more strides. Coruscate, running to her best form and favored by her light Impost, trailed the others far back in the early running, but moved up with a rush after going a half and won well in hand. Old Stone had the best of the start, was clear of interference, showed much speed and stayed well in the final drive. Harmakis ran forwardly from the start and stood a drive gamely. The Minks trailed the others in the early running and finished fast. Devout tired badly after going three-quarters. Martha Gorman was. reserved from the fast pace In the early stages, moved up with great speed on the stretch turn, where she saved much ground and, finishing fast won drawing away. Funiculalre, badly bandied and going wide all the way, finished gamely and was going fast at the end. Don Domo began flowly and was made much use of in the early stages by being sent into early contention and tired badly in the final drive. Lady Esther was forced wide all the way and suffered from interference from Fnnlcu-laire, but finished fast and, with clear sailing, would probably have won. El Otros, badly outrun in the early stages, moved up with a good burst of speed when straightened .out for the stretch run and, coming gamely near the end, got up in the final strides. Western, poorly handled and going wide, ran a good race and was probably best. Nuns Veiling, away fully in motion, showed superior early speed, but was excessively used and tired badly in the final drive. Excitement was gaining fast at the end and will improve. Ara likes a longer distance. Tarp ran a bad race. Roscoe showed, speed, but failed to stay. Overweights Western, 1 pound; Excitement, 2; Tarp, 3.
