EL OffROS WINS FEATURE AT LOUISVILLE, Is Skillfully Ridden by Mountain Best Racing of the Churchill Downs Meeting. Louisville, Ky., October t. The racing at Churchill Downs today was the best of the meeting. During the morning there was a drizzling rain, but It did not affect the track or the attendance. The feature race was the handicap at seven-eighths of a mile. It was won by El Otros, which received strong support all through the betting. Mountain "gave the colt an excellent ride avoiding the stiff early pace nud bringing him away at the end in a determined finish. Devout, the favorite, appears to have gone stale. Don DOmos price receded to n degree that gave rise to rumors that there was "nothing- doing" with him. These doubters were not a little surprised that he went away with a burst of speed that forced Omar Khayyam into defeat and lasted long enough to finish In third position. Missouri Lad, a much improved colt, and considered a Derby prospect, was a pronounced choice for the condition purse over Princess Orna. The Hayes mare, under a strong ride, won a good race. The surprise of the race was the forward running of The Clansman, which- not only displayed an abundance of speed, but a good deal of jgameness. Triumphant picked up a nail and had to be withdrawn from the fifth race. Handy Bill ran away two miles after the second race before Nicol could bring him under control. : In future his entry will be barred here. , For misbehavior at tlie post in the opening- race jockey Lee drew a fine of 5 from the starter. Nicol. Hudlin and Griffith were fined 0 each. Jockeys Swain and. Koeruer are additions to the riding, ranks. George Holle arrived this morning and announced that the horses owned by him will be trained by T. L. Pierce.
