ROY A. RAINEYS HORSES OWE HIM MUCH. In Hands of Billy Garth It Is Expected They Will Make Good Garth Leads Trainers. New York, October 5. The three horses transferred by Roy A. Rainey from the bauds of trainer "Bub" May to trainer Billy Garth are Horace E., Sir Wilfred and Computer. It is understood that Mr. Garth will not start either of the horses again this year, but will shortly send them to his farm iu Virglna, where they are to be wintered. These three horses cost Mr. Ualney 1,200 and they have returned him in prizes just 81,265. After Horace E.s victory in the Memphis Stakes at Montgomery Park, he- paid Barney Schreiber 5,000 for the son of Baunockburu. For Sir AVilfred he paid 6,200 at the auction of the C. E. Duruell horses at Belmont Park, April 21, and he gave Fred Littlefield 0,000 for Computer after that big son of Compute scored his victory over Bathmaria and Campaigner at Bennings, March 28. It is true that this trio have appeared in the colors of Mr. ltainey only six times, but there Is a general feeling among horsemen hereabouts that hail they been better handled they would have been more frequently raced and would have given their youngs owner a more respectable return for his investment. However, they are good horses and in the hands of a man like Garth, it is expected that next season they will show decided improvement. Sir Wilfred is the only one that has won for Mr. ltainey. He scored In a purse race at Belmont Park, May 12. That was his only start in the colors of .his new owner and the race netted him 15. Computer was second at Gravesend May 2-1 and earned 00. Ills next and last start was at Saratoga, August 13. He finished last. Horace E. got 0 third money at Saratoga, was unplaced in the Futurity and was given 00 third mouey in the Autumn Stakes through the disqualification of DInna Ken at Sheeps-head Bay, September 11, his last start. In the matter of races won. Garth has achieved more than any other trainer in America this year. He began racing at Bennings in March and has sent to post tlie winners of sixty-eight races. Herman Brandt, who. trains one division of Barney Schreib-crs- stable, Is second on the list with fifty-seven winning races. His record dates from January 1. A. J. Joyner, William Walker and Frank Hanlon each have saddled fifty-five winners, Mr. Joyner, however, did not begin racing until the season opened at Aqueduct.
