HOLSCHER TO BE1 ENTERED AT BENNINGS. A couple of years ago William Shields took .a maiden caljed Ben Crockett to Bennlngs and won the Maximum Stakes, three miles, the longest race of the eastern season, with him. Last season Ben Crockett, running under the colors of the Queen City Stable, of Canada, won the Maximum Stakes a second time, but not until he had taken the Washington Cup, two miles and a quarter, the best distance event; of the Bennlngs fall session. Xow that Holscher has won the Brighton .Cup, showing that there is more in him than the experts were willing to admit a little while back. Shields is determined to try for the Maximum and the Washington Cup with him this. fall. .Ajsc Holscher will be named for the Bennings Special, a .race of one mile and a half, for three-year-olds and over. "Entering this horse at Bennlngs is well worth while," says young Shields, "because he is a belter horse than Ben Crockett ever. was. He can tun faster that Ben and he can go farther. I did not take a foolish chance when I bought the right to race him in the Brighton Cup. I believed he had better than an outside chance, because lie had shown me in races and in work that ho liked a distance of ground. I knew that he was ready, and I felt that If either Proper or the mare stopped in front he would beat them. Holscher always runs well for Xoone. Why, I cannot tell. Neither can anyone else. He seems to. understand my boy, and the boy knows him better than any of the alleged star riders I have put on his back."
