Harris, from a lucky inside position and a striding start, ran In close pursuit of the pacemakers to the stretch where lie finished with a rush and won out in a hard drive. John Lyle also was favored at the start and forced the early running, was forced to go wide on the last turn, finished like a cyclone and just failed to get up. Chimney Sweep, away slowly, steadily Improved his position and made up a lot of ground into a fast going third. Columbia Girl was prominent throughout and might have won with an adequate ride. Deknber closed up steadily In the stretch and ran a very good race. Bivouac was prominent, to the last llfty yards in an extra good effort. Dnruma finished well up. Mlntla showed superior speed, but failed to stay. Anneta Lady was virtually left and, after closing a big gap, failed to stay. Yama Christy trailed for the first half miler then took the lead and held It to the end, withstood menacing challenges from Pure Pepper and Oleroso on the last turn and drew out easily in the final sixteenth. Oleroso, after waiting in the rear for two miles, moved up with unexpected reserve speed on the far turn and finished a fast going second. Pure Pepper was a forward contender when coming to the last jump, but ran outside of the left wing, then turned back and finished the course and earned third place. Dick Roberts was a forward contender for two miles, then fell. Grandpa blundered and threw his rider at the first jump. Leonard Joe Hayman showed unexpected speed and stamina in the going and earned an easy second place. Athlete, boring out all through the stretch, was driving hard at the end to save third place. Roswell was closing up at the end. Umbrella, badly messed about, finished a close fifth and going fastest of all except the winner. Klllochan seemingly disliked the going. Belcast swerved all over the course in the first half. Red Friar, badly outpaced for six furlongs, finished with a cyclonic- stretch run. Wes displayed brilliant speed for seven furlongs and then quit badly.
