JOCKEY CHARGES BRIBERY. W. FISCHER MAKES SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS AGAINST STEVE LHOMMEDIEU. J. B. Sunn, Owner of Oratorian, Makes a Statement to the Latonia Officials Which tho Bookmaker Denies Investigation Is On. Cincinnati, O., October SO. A sensation was sprung at Latonia tJiia afternoon when .T. B. Dunn charged that Steve LHoramedicu, the bookmaker, hart attempted to bribe jockey Fischer to prevent Oratorian from winning in the last race on the closing day of tho Louisville .Tockey Club meeting. The race was won by Auditor, Oratorian finishing second. The charges were brought about by the fact that Oratorian, after his victory at Latonia last Saturday, was bid up several hundred dollars over Ills entered price. The bidding is alleged to have been done at the instigation of Steve LHommedien in a spirit of revenge. After Dunn had made his charges, LHoniraedleu was summoned before Judge Price. The bookmaker denied having offered to bribe the jockey. Fischer was then sent for and he corroborated Dunns statement, that LHommedien had approached him with an offer of money to restrain Oratorian from winning. Judge Price has telegraphed for M. J. Winn, general manager of the Louisville Jockey Club, to assist him in ferreting out the truth of the accusar lion and the matter will eventually be submitted to the American Turf Association for final disposition. Most disagreeable racing conditions prevailed today. The weather was cold and threatening and the dark sky at times made colors indistinguishable. In spite of this a fair attendance was at the course. The, racing was unsatisfactory. -One favorite, was. successfuland-ithatJionot:IvxollDerjwaSat a short price.- M. J. Daly furnished three of the beaten favorites in Alyth, Elliott and St. Joseph. The first-named met with a mishap during the running of, the first race that caused him to be pulled up. Elliotts defeat was attributed to poor judgment on the part of J. Daly, who allowed Jetsam to steal away from him in the early running and was not able to overhaul the leader as readily as he anticipated when he made a strong effort in the stretch. The defeat of Meadowbreeze caused a Wholesale loss to the sharpshooters. Toboggan, The Mate and Noel were the long-priced winners and each had their full quota of backing by a select coterie. There was much jamming and crowding in the different races. In the opening one Alyth was thrown against the fence and the claim was made that he injured his stifie. Helmuth also was slightly cut down. For disobedience at the post jockey C. Morris was suspended for six days by the starter. Noel was bid up 100 over his entered price of 100 by G. Hughes and retained by his owner.
