FOQUESSINC- "WINS AT A LONG PRICE. Pimlico Track Much Faster Than in Former. Years . A "New Record Made More Horses Arrive. Baltimore, Md., November 8. Pimlico in former years was noted for its slow course. It was a deep, sandy track and even the best of horses could not make fast time over it. Now It is a different proposition. Superintendent Brennan has worked on it until now it bids fair to lie one of the best that the second- circuit racers battle over. The spell of good weather has been, a great help In this direction. This afternoon the three-year-old Poquess-ing made a new seven furlongs record. This gelding which ran in the name of B.. Murray, a Philadelphia doctor, and which Is trained, by Frank Herold, stepped the distance in 1:28. Poquessing, which is a big bay, by Knight of the Thistle Octa Reed had never started before. He was ridden by "Mickey" Miles and won at the good price of 20 to 1 In the betting. Immediately after the gelding got home in front, there was a suspicion that he was a ringer and this set the stewards busy. Western poolrooms were communicated with, but no evidence on any betting transactions were found. Herold is a reputable trainer and nothing will come of the gossip. Daisy Frost was heavily backed by a coterie of local men, headed by Baker Waters, a Standard Oil representative, and the twenty-five books lost well to the race. It is a good thing that the Maryland Jockey Club intends to change quarters soon. So many horses are here that many of them have to be excluded from the races. This is annoying to owners and a detriment to the course for at the sprinting distances only a dozen can be started on account of the width of the course. Willie Shields thinks so well of the racing here that he sent to New York for more horses. As a result his father sent back the recent winner,. Home-lander, Meddling Daisy and Light Comedy. Out of four horses sent to the post by Shields so far he has won two races.
