The Ililchcck pair, the gelding Woodcraft and the filly Polaris, trained in John Maddens stable, also look well advanced in condition and have shown well in their work. The Reverwyck Stables Malacca and Berkeley stepped live furlongs in l:ol haiadily. and one of the pair is a certain Starter for the Benning Spring Handicap on the opening day. Matches Mary and Tenancy, by Courtesy, are also going along in good style for their engagement in the Nursery Stake the second week of the meeting. of the topnolc hers. SaHidore. Dandelion. Tangle. De Mund. Horace E. and Oxford have all shown milch improvement since the* reached here, their daily gallops being all that haw been asked of them. Ie Mund and Horace K. are perhaps the furthest advanced of all. and they worked live furlongs in l:iil wilh the I tench mare Glaette two days ago. GraslaDo and Lady Vera Worked in 1:04. and one or both of the pair will start in the handicap. Oxford and .lack McKcon worked five furlongs in 1 :03. and Campaigner in half a second slower time. The gray horse litis wintered splendidly and promises to be better than ever this year. All of tile two year olds in the McLaughlin stable are useful looking, especially those that ran at New Orleans -Jiieen Melha and Success. More useful schooling by the jumpers has shown Comssodore Fontaine. DArkle, Hyperion, Pioneer. Hub-inn and Gas Straus to advantage. T. S. Martin. at his last essay refused the Liverpool, but at a eCOUd trial goi over it. Rut Nortbvttle is an enigma, a« lie will alternately refuse and take jumps, but if Garth can get him to take more kindly to his business, this horse will win between the Hags, for he can jump well enough when be wants to and has speed cm the fiat, as well as weight- any ing capacity. Quadrille is moving like a bird, and if he doesnt win some of the sprints at the meeting, all signs will come to naught. Holscher is going along slowly and seems perfectly sound. The Malik of Heuderaoa and Allnult. from Maryland, readied lure Monday morning and managed lo find quarters outside the track. It includes the well known horse lrcckiniin. Tom Raws, en and four others. Thomas Clydes stable is en route from Salisbury, Md. The book program of the meeting, just issued, has been received with favor by the horsemen at the track. It calls for eighteen days racing, the MB races carded including conditions for all classes of horses. As usual, the owner, trainer and jockey of the horse that wins the first race will each re elve as a trophy a handsome silver mug. A letter received at Banning from Charleston says that the South Carolina Jockey Club has been organized and that a new mile track will lie built for a meeting this fall. The fatuous old Washington race-c oiirse, opened in 17S0, lias long since been cut up into building lots.
