IMPROVEMENT IN OAKLAND RACING. Contests Are More Pleasing, Particularly to Those Who Follow the Form of Horses. Oakland. Cal., April 29.— Todays card at Oak la id was of average excellence and. attinded by ideal surroundings, produced good racing, the results being particularly satisfactory in at least four of Uncontests to that ]M.rtion of the s|Kciilatively inclined public who rely upon past performances for their winners. Three favorites. Be Thankful. Corrigan and Como. and the strongly backed second choice !.. M. Brat tain, rewarded their backers. Combury. a rank nl sider iu the second, and Confessor, the fourth choice in the fifth, yielded rich returns to a certain clique of manipulators. The big throug of spectators stead agape at, the decisive victory scored by these two. Projected killings on Sir Wesley. Taylor George lad Sam Barber failed: the first and last: named for lack of competent handling. Lillian Russell was an interested spectator at the track this afternoon. There are nearly two thous and racehorses now quartered in or about the track. A. J. Levy and Al Koctiigsberger left for New York last night. Sandy was agaiu the bright pal ticular star of todays riding talent at Oaklaud with two firsts, one second, two thirds and was only lica ten three heads in the closing race. Puerl Wilkerson. who has raced a stable of horses here and in the middle west with more or less success for the past ten years, has retired from the turf and returned to his former line of baataeee, theatricals. He left for New York today where he intends to organize a traveling company. A good average program has been arranged for tomorrow and with such useful racers as Charay, Parasol, Miss Butte; Fair Fagot, Furze, Jezebel: Ethel Day, Binders. The Mist: Sugarmaid. Cloud light, George I*. McNear; Native Son, Kokonio, Blagg: Fisher Boy, Cabin and Miss Otlicioiis likely to run. the racing should be fully up to the tracks ■tsaaard B. Forsiaud.
