PRINCE AHMED A USEFUL HORSE. Prince Ahmed, the three-year-old son of King Hanover Percita, has proved a good investment for John C. Ferriss, Jr., and is a horse worth following when entered with horses that can run three-quarters of a mile in about 1:131 and a mile in alout 1:403, providing the track is fast and he lias up no more than 112 pounds. Prince Ahmed does not like the mud and sprinting is his game just now, though it is quite likely that another season will And him going routes longer than a mile. Prince Ahmed was bred by Harry Franklin at Gallatin, Tenn.. and was broken and trained as a two-year-old by the late Frank Bruhns. Bruhns started him six times but the best he gave him was one third at Latonia in July a year ago. After the death of Mr. Bruhns last fall, Mr. Ferriss bought the colt from Mr. Franklin for ,000 and lias since won five races and ,830 with him. Prince Ahmed is as sound as a bell, weighing between 950 and 1,000 pounds when in racing condition. He is of a slightly nervous temperament, which comes through his Hanover strain, and because of this he will not stand a strenuous course of training. However, he is easily conditioned and when in good form he will retain it without much difficulty, as his disposition around the stable is Ideal. He eats plentifully, twelve quarts of oats being Ills daily allowance in addition to generous quantities of hay. lie is a free running horse, although a long sfrlder. Any sort of riding, providing he is handled capably, suits him. However, Ills best races have been under slight restraint to the final furlong and 1hen a sharp call. He will take advantage of a lightweight jockey and try to bore over to the Inner rail, especially when some other horse is running level with him. In color Prince Ahmed is a dark chestnut, with a liloze face and two white hind legs, the white extending to almost his ankles. Ordinary racing plates suit him best. He is companionable to a little monkey which plays around his stall at all hours of the day and which he allows to climb all over 3iini. Here is a record of Prince Ahmeds races and winnings: Year.
