SALLY PRESTON SAVES THE TALENT. i Whisk Brooms Defeat By Balla Due to the Start Exciting Finish in Fourth Race. Buffalo, N. Y., August 22. Sally Preston saved followers of favorites from a complete Waterloo at Fort Erie this afternoon. A majority of the races were keenly contested, the finish in the fourth race being the best seen at the -track in some time. Five of the ten starters fought it out the length of the homestretch and as they flashed past the judges stand they were heads and necks apart. Whisk Brooms defeat by Balla In the fifth race was the biggest surprise of the afternoon. Whisk Broom was an odds-on favorite and heavily backed by the public, but a wretched start gave Balla so much the best of it that she was enabled to make a runaway affair of the race, winning by a couple of lengths. This was probably Ballas last appearance here, as she will be shipped with the remainder of Mr. Cellas string to Montreal on Tuesday next, ner performance today stamps her as a fair filly and she will be hard to beat at Blue Bonnets.
