Stanley Fay took the lead at once and set a terrific pace, carried Sir Edward to defeat in the first live furlongs and drew away under punishment in the last sixteenth. Sir Edward was a close contender until well into the homestretch, but tired at the end under a drive. Purslane wns messed about all the way and interfered witli a couple of times on the backstretcli and finished fast and gamely under punishment. Dredger found an opening on the inside on the lirst turn and followed Banyah closely until on the turn into the homestretch, then caught and passed Banyah at the furlong post, but was driving hard at the end to retain the lead. Clell Turney, crowded baek on the lirst turn, closed a big gap and, finishing gamely, wis gaining on the winner at every stride. Banyah set a fast early pace, but tired, after going six furlongs. Uncle Toby was sharply cut off on the backstretcli and was pulled up. Freseati closed a big gap, but tired in the last furlong. Henry O. was waited with until straightened out for the stretch run before making his move and, finishing gamely under punishment, was under a hard drive- at the end to outstay Rebounder. The latter was in close quarters in the last furlong and had to bump his way through at the end. Cloten was much used in racing St. Jeanne and Taunt into defeat and tired in the last quarter. Chippewa closed a big gap. St. Jeanne and Taunt ran well for seven furlongs and tired. The winner was entered for 500; no bid. Dele Stronie Went well. Edwin Gum tired badly in the last half. Factotum ran a good mile and three-quarters, then quit all over. John Dillon ran well in hand until in the last turn of the field, took the lead after Dulcian bolted, out of the course and was under restraint through the last half mile. Steve Lane fenced well and outstayed The Chef in the final drive. The latter also went well, but could never get up. Gold Run and Dawson lost their riders at the sixth jump. Butwell fell at the eighth. Bob Murphy at the tenth, Merry Maker at the twelfth and PIcktime at the nineteenth. Dulcian bolted out of the course after taking eleven jumps. The latter set a fast pace and hung ou longer than usual. Cursus closed up again in the last quarter and was catching the leaders at the end. Bewitched was a keen contender all the way-and was nmch used in racing Fire Fang and Ballot Box into defeat. .Fire Fang bung on well. Ballot Box ,ran much below his true form.
