THE "STUFF" BURLEW IS USING. "What a curious thing it is to note the different views held by different persons," says Sports of the Times. "You may wisli to pay a man a compliment and go out of your way to do it, but it is not -0 to 1 he does not misunderstand you and take it as an insult. A mild case of this was nearly precipitated a few days ago when William Easton was selling a rather poor filly to Fred Burlew, and said: "Take her Mr. Burlew, and when you have given her some of that stuff you have been using, she will astonish vonr friends who are now passing her along. Of course there was a roar of laughter at Burlews expense. Mr. Easton, however, was simply alluding to a new colt food which Mr. Burlew had been trying and many others with marked success. Fortunately Easton and Burlew are the best of good friends, and the matter passed with a laugh. Which Is best, for: He who offends writes on the sand, but he who is offended writes on marble.
