LATONIA RACES IN BAD WEATHER Cincinnati, O., September 2S. Cloudy weather did not deter a big crowd from journeying to the La-tonia course this afternoon, nor did several light showers that fell intermittently dampen their enthusiasm during the first five races. Many thereafter wished themselves well away from the track, as the rain descended fiercely. The last half mile of the closing race was run in a deluge. The mile and a sixteenth handicap for a purse of ,000, which was the star offering, went to The Minks after a hard drive with Edwin Gum. The winner was lucky. Lexoline, leading at the stretch head, ran out and caused Carew, his nearest contender, to go with him. But for the mishap Carew might havo won. Favorites and second choices practically divided the card and the twenty-two layers again, suffered a loss. Miss Sain showed herself a high class filly by her impressive victory over a good field of youngsters in the fifth. Albert Star, in the opening race, gained the closest decision and beat out Miss V.fci-laut. Pat Dunne took two .of the purses when bin Boserrian and Sea Salt landed winner. Beginning Monday the field3 which heretofore had been limited to twelve, will be raised to fourteen. Jockey Shilling arrived today and was In great 1 demand by owners.
