MAY START IN INITIAL HANDICAP. Horses Likely to Contest First Stake Race at New Orleans. New Orleans, La., November 20. The weights for the Initial Handicap to be run next Saturday at City Park were announced this morning. They embrace forty-two nominees, Bugler being accorded top weight at 119 pounds, while Jennies Beau is allotted the minimum of S7. The nominations consist of some prominent performers, and Secretary Maglnn expects the following to go to the post: Lotus Eater, 11S; Tilcing, 11G Okenite, 11C; Keator, 115; Lad of Langdcn, 112; Lexoline, 112; Druid, 111; Chief Hayes, 109; Fantastic, 101; Mike Sutton, 100; Sally Preston, OC; Jersey Lady, 00, and Ed Kane, SS. Work watchers arc inclined to favor Sally Preston at the weights. STie is reported in superb form and will be accorded smart backing. There was a change in plans of the opposition racing that the so-called Louisiana Driving and Racing Club intends foisting on the public this winter. The new arrangement calls for racing in the forenoon, the first race to start at 11 a. in., and to Lave the sport over at the half-mile track fully half an hour before the racing starts at the big tracks. Although no announcement has been made by the executive committee of the Crescent City and City Park tracks relative to action they will lake if the -plan is adhered to, it is understood that any one taking part in the racing at the half-mile courses after the opening of the greater tracks, will receive scant recognition. General Manager Wiuu, who arrived last night from Chicago, was busy during the day telegraphing to various persous available should it be necessary to temporarily fill the positions of starter and associate judge. E. Corrigaus string of sixty-eight horses is expected to arrive in the next few days. Scarcity of cars is still keeping many owners at Latonia and Louisville. A. Kirby, who will have charge of the field books at both tracks, was summoned to New York on account of the illness of his brother. Uneasy, which Is a member of his stable, is in a serious condition and little hope is entertained for her recovery. J. R. Taylors Pleasant View Belle was taken off the cars this afternoon in bad condition. J. II. Bakers consignment, which arrived at the same time, also suffered, several of the string having a high fever. One of the horses was reported in a dying condition. R. A. Smith, who lost a Ccsarion filly yesterday us a result of lung fever, sustained an additional loss by the death of a highly tried Gobi Heels colt. The youngster had been ailing, but little fear was entertained for his recovery. In some manner the colt got loose from his stall last night and was found dead in, a ditch adjacent to the stable this afternoon. Pat Dunne reports the loss of two yearlings by Marta Santa Lentrenne and Marta Santa Tag-llonl. The former was owned by Dunne himself, while the Taglidni filly was the property of Edward Corrigan.
