NOTES OF THE TURF. In race 71727 Octoic should refer to race 71G93. The lease on Horse Haven Farm held by Perry Belmont has been placed with W. H. McCorkle for disposal. The only object for extending the city limits of Louisville, to take in both of the tracks, is said to be the question of taxation. J. C. Cooper has shipped his stable to Los Angeles for racing at Arcadia. Jockey T. Chandler will ride for the stable there this winter. Follow On will be retired to Antrim Stud at the close of the Washington Club meeting by her owner, D. K. Kerr, and bred to Rochampton next spring. It is said that the Goughacres Stable will be raced in two divisions next year. They will each contain about twenty horses. One of them will only be raced on the Canadian circuit. Jockey Ashcr, who has hot been riding since receiving an injury in a race at Atlanta, Ga., last October, is now at his home in Cincinnati. He is under contract to D. Hill. Seymour Beutler, it is understood, will have charge of the Pinkcrton force policing the Santa Anita track this winter. He has filled that position at Ascot Park for several seasons. C. C. Thomas, a prominent bookmaker on the New York tracks during the past summer, is seriously ill at his home in Wayne, Pa. He was compelled to leave for home before the Aqueduct meeting closed. Tom Knowlton, who booked at Ascot Park for several winters, is reported to be dying at Portland, Ore. He submitted to having his left foot amputated several weeks ago and he has been sinking slowly ever since the operation was performed. John W. Gates and his son Charles G. Gates, who passed through Chicago the first of the week on their way to points in Texas on a business trip, announced to friends while in the city that they would probably spend the greater part of the winter in New Orleans.
