Monopolist ran in improved form, got away well, was never far from the front and, coming around the leaders at the head of the stretch, outgained Clell Turney and won drawing clear. Clell Turney ran well in the going and.outstayed Roslmiro for second place. Rosimlro showed the most early speed and set the pace fast, but tired in the final drive. Sanguine ran well and finished gamely. Live Wire was taken back right after1 the start, then closed a big gap In the last quarter and, with better early riding, would have been a close contender. King Thistle ran well for a half and tired. The others ran poorly. Norbitt was as easily second best and finished gamely after making the early pace. New Garter was prominent in the running from the start, but tired in the last furlong and finished easing up. Ostrich, outrun early, closed a big gap and finished fast and gamely. Ironsides was well up at the head of the stretch, but tired badly in the final drive. Lally showed early speed, but failed to stay. Ocean Spray set the early pace, but quit utterly in the stretch. Water Dog was never a contender.
