FOREIGN TURF NOTES. William Griggs has given up his intention of wintering and riding in India. Nor is it at all likely that either B. Dillon or Escott will undertake the journey. Tommy Loates, whose successful career as a jockey was relinquished only a few seasons back, is now seldom seen at race meetings outside of Newmarket. This once popular lightweight is now a strong billiard enthusiast. The death is announced of "Batty" Norringlon, which occurred at Newbury early In November at the age of sixty-four. He was buried at Drayton. He was a big farmer and breeder, and bred, among other good horses, Sailor Prince, the winner of the Cambridgeshire and later a successful sire as the property of Pierre Lorillard. He was always interested iu racing, and was a fine judge.
