HORSES AT NEW YORK HEALTHY. Xew York, December 9. There are nearly 1,000 race horses wintering at the race tracks on Long Island this year. The trainers of stables which are raced exclusively on the metropolitan tracks, have decided almost ,to a man that it does not pay to ship their charges south for the winter, and the only cases where that has been done this fall were when the owner maintained a winter establishment in the southern states. The liability of horses meeting with accidents on the cars down and back and the additional risk in subjecting them to changes of climate, thereby contracting bad colds which have prevented some horses in past years from regaining their form until late in the season, and in some instances not during the year, are deterring-elements. There will, be a few who will ship to Hot Springs later in the winter If there Is any prospect of racing being resumed there next spring.
