ESTIMATE OF NEW ORLEANS JOCKEYS. New Orleans, La., December 9. Notter looks like the best rider here. Charlie Ellison has a contract on him for the winter, and under his careful management Notter will probably be at the head of the list of winning jockeys -when the season closes. Nicol has been unfortunate in that he has earned the displeasure of the starter and has been on the ground all but a couple of days. J. Sumter, Jimmy McCormicks boy, is a clever little rider for it lightweight, but he is too small. With another years experience and a little more weight Sumter should .develop into a star. McCormick thinks a lot of this lad and keeps him at liome with him. Detaby is an in-aitd-outer. This lad is an enigma. Watkins, who has him under contract, has great faith ln the boy, and, despite the advice of the officials, who recommended that he be given a rest, he still continues to ridehim. Koerner, the elder, is a clever "horseman, and so is Mountain. Minder lias been riding well, ami Is In good form. The balance are a bad bunch. In all there are about 100 jockeys here this winter, and less than a dozen of them can be styled good riders.
